Cleaning and polishing of your teeth and gums.
Conventional: After tooth decay is removed a silver colored filling is placed and adjusted to your bite. Tooth colored (composite fillings): This is a plastic  like material that is bonded to the tooth and used after tooth decay is removed or to help stabilize a broken tooth. The tooth colored material is layered in the tooth and hardened with a light. This material is then shaped and polished to look very close to your natural tooth.
A sealant is a thin coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This is designed to prevent food and bacteria from entering into the small pits and grooves of your teeth which are prime areas for decay to start. Sealants are very effective for people of all ages but especially in young children who still need some help with their brushing skills.
Conventional: Crowns are used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance when the tooth has become compromised. Typically when the tooth has fractured, cracked, had large areas of decay removed or a root canal done. The crown forms a protective covering over the tooth to prevent further fracture or loss of the tooth. and can be made of porcelain, ceramic, or gold.

When you have a tooth or teeth missing it can cause many problems in the mouth. Surrounding teeth may shift. You have added stress to your existing teeth and jaw. You have increased plaque and gum problems. A bridge is a natural looking replacement to maintain your proper spacing, bite, and smile. It is done very similar to crowns by bonding the custom made bridge over the existing teeth or implants.
Veneers are thin, custom made tooth-colored materials that are designed to bond to the front surfaces of your teeth. They can be used to cover teeth that are stained, naturally discolored, chipped or misaligned. They can even be used to close gaps.
Implants are placed where the roots are normally located. They act as the foundation for single or multiple tooth replacement. They also can be used to anchor dentures. Implants are well designed and very closely mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Because they are synthetic and biocompatible there is no chance of decay on an implant. They are integrated into the jawbone and can last a lifetime once placed.
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. Complete dentures replace all the teeth and are made of an acrylic material. Partial dentures fill in the spaces of missing teeth and maintain the position of the existing teeth. They can be made of acrylic, nylon, metal, or a combination of these materials.
Many tooth problems involve infections that spread to the nerve or pulp of the tooth. When this happens, the nerve of the tooth should be removed. During a root canal procedure, the diseased tissue and infected nerve is removed from the tooth. Then the chambers or spaces where the nerve used to be are shaped, disinfected, and sealed with an elastic material to prevent new infection of the tooth. When the nerves of the tooth are removed the blood supply and the nutrients are also removed in the tooth. This can make the existing tooth more brittle so a crown is always recommended over the tooth after this procedure is done to protect it. This will be done at a separate appointment.
Tooth whitening is a quick and simple way to brighten your smile. It is a procedure designed to remove years of stains and discolorations from coffee, teas, wines, soda, and even trauma to your teeth. Our office has three types of whitening procedures: Professional strength whitening strips, Custom tray whitening systems, and Zoom whitening www.discusdental.com
(Jaw disorders and grinding teeth): People with TMD often have popping, clicking, and/or pain in the jaw when opening and closing their mouth. This disorder can also cause headaches and tooth sensitivities. Many times, this disorder is a result of bruxism or the habit of grinding your teeth. This habit can wear away and traumatize the teeth, gums and jaws if left untreated. Some patients with TMD can be helped with a small plastic appliance worn in the mouth. This is made by taking an impression of the biting surfaces of your teeth and fabricated in our office.
Braces are placed on the teeth to correct misaligned teeth and bad bites. Our office can do both conventional (wire braces) and clear retainer braces. Both procedures will require an initial consultation appointment to discuss which type is best for you.
